Gohar KHACHATRYAN, Armenia
PROJECT: The Meaningful Participation in Community Decision-making Processes of People Living in Group Homes in Armenia

With respect for human rights and diversity, Gohar is working towards the promotion of anti-discriminatory and inclusive policies and practices in Armenia.

Since 2016, Gohar has worked in several CSOs and advocates for the rights of diverse groups. The development of equal opportunities, elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence are the guidelines for her work, both at micro and macro levels.

Mental health is the main topic for her academic and professional activities. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a Master’s degree in Social Policy. She is currently preparing to defend her Ph.D. thesis on the employment issues that people with mental health problems face.

With the belief in the possibility of achieving systemic changes, with like-minded friends, she recently created the ‘Change’ CSO. As Co-founder and Director of Change, Gohar believes that through horizontal management and joint effort, they can improve social and healthcare services and policies in Armenia.

“In Armenia, mental health is not the priority topic, and people with mental health problems face many problems, from discriminatory attitudes to the absence of necessary services. We need to focus our efforts on developing policies and projects that promote research-based reforms addressing existing issues and providing opportunities for the realization of rights.  My fellowship project, ‘Meaningful Participation in Community Decision-making Processes of People Living in Group Homes in Armeniaaims to contribute to the development of practices for people with mental health problems living in group homes to be included in the community decision-making process.  I hope that the project can contribute to the development of practices for people with mental health problems to be included in the community decision-making process.” – Gohar KHACHATRYAN
